Two 18th century American armchairs:

ladderbacks, each with turned finials, arms and arm supports, mushroom grips, one with oak split seat, one with rush seat, one with probably original surface, one with black over earlier red paint, New England, 43-1/2 x 24-1/2 x 15 in. and 40-1/2 x 23 x 16 in. One refinished and with some loss of height, rear feet trimmed, black-painted chair with replaced front feet and patches (formerly fitted with rockers), both with replaced woven seats, normal wear and surface abrasions. Provenance: Estate of the Late William and Priscilla Carlebach, Mystic, Connecticut and Bedford, New York.
