Early New England mule chest,

poplar and white pine, dovetailed and rosehead nail construction with traces of original red paint, batten hinged top with open interior and double false drawer front over two long drawers, period backplates with later posts and bails, probably Connecticut, early 18th century, 39 x 42-1/2 x 20-1/4 in. Top of backboard and wooden hinge supports replaced, some brasses with later posts, normal surface wear, cracks and abrasions throughout. Provenance: Estate of the Late William and Priscilla Carlebach, Mystic, Connecticut and Bedford, New York.
