Chippendale, walnut throughout with shell-carved crest and shaped highly figured splat, shell-carved cabriole legs and ball-and-claw feet, period slip seat with stamped initials "MC", Philadelphia, 1760-1780, 39-1/4 x 21-1/2 x 17 in. Excellent condition, original slip seat, knee blocking and returns, minor wear and abrasions to carved feet, very minor paint splatter, minor repair to one stile at joint with seat frame (possibly repinned). Provenance: Early 20th century inscribed label on seat frame back "Anthony Morris IV 1705-1780. Chair lately at 'Olney' Philadelphia…"; Property of a Descendant of Anthony Morris of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
