shaped crest rail and hand grips, plank seat, baluster-turned legs and stretchers, late 18th century, 41-1/2 x 24-1/2 x 16 in. Tall spindles probably replaced, 3 in. section at back of plank seat replaced, legs ended out 2 in., two stretchers replaced, surface wear and abrasions. Provenance: Early pencil inscription on plank seat "This chair belonged to John Ellis, father of…"; Estate of the Late William and Priscilla Carlebach, Mystic, Connecticut and Bedford, New York.
