Mountain Road Lottery ticket number 258, dated 1768, partially printed document signed "G. Washington", on laid paper, 1-1/4 x 3-1/4 in. Trimmed (not affecting signature), fading, toning, minor tears and repaired separation (not affecting signature), minor adhesive residue verso, paper and tape fragments applied to three corners verso, unmounted. Provenance: Estate of the Late William and Priscilla Carlebach, Mystic, Connecticut and Bedford, New York. The Mountain Road lottery was a project conceived by George Washington in 1767 to fund road construction through the Allegheny Mountains to a resort in Hot Springs, Virginia.
