family archive: Joseph Plumb Martin (1760-1850), [A Narrative of Some of the Adventures, Dangers and Sufferings of a Revolutionary War Soldier…,] published by Glazier, Hadley & Co., Maine, 1830, 7 x 4-1/2 in., [oak boards warped with losses;] 81-page paperboard journal with inscriptions for J.P. Martin of Prospect, Maine, dated 1832-35, includes dedication to his daughter, poems, dreams, thoughts, and a hand-copied newspaper article dated 1850 related to his death, 8-1/8 x 6-1/4 in., [loose pages, possibly missing pages, moisture stains, cellophane tape;] 71-page clothbound journal of Rev. Ebenezer Martin (J.P. Martin's father), dated 1795, includes dated entries, accounting information, and a printed section titled [Poor Robin's Almanac for the Year 1795,] published by John McCulloch, Philadelphia, 6-1/2 x 4 in., [cover with separations, cellophane tape, loose pages (possibly missing pages), trimmed pages, moisture stains;] 95-page leather-bound diary of Susan Green (J.P. Martin's only daughter), dated 1868, entries relate mostly to daily life, also inscribed by Joseph P. Green, Stockton, Maine, 5-1/4 x 3-5/8 in., [cover with plastic and paper tape, additional pages bound to back.] All with losses to covers, toning, fading, foxing, soiling, stains, tears and losses, later pencil and ink inscriptions. J.P. Martin was 17 years old when he joined the Continental Army in 1777. He served as a Private in the 8th Connecticut Regiment under General James Varnum until the army disbanded in 1783. He later was one of the founders of the town of Prospect, near modern-day Stockton Springs, Maine.
