cabinet card of 12 African men, women, children in elaborate native costumes with manager and female associate in western attire, stamped on back "South African Kaffir Choir, James H. Balmer, Manager, Permanent Address, P.O. Box 2160, New York City," cabinet card by the Royal Photographic and Portrait Studio, Boston, Massachusetts, late 19th century, 4-1/4 x 6-1/2 in. (page). Toning, fading, stains, smudges. The choir consisted of members from at least six tribes. They toured England and America in the early 1890s and performed for Queen Victoria.
