paneled tapering sides and scroll handle, scroll and floral cartouche, partial mark probably Mitchell & Tyler (Richmond, Virginia, working 1845-1866), inscribed "Susan W. Empie/Ann Empie Boatwright", 4.32 oz.T., 3-3/4 x 4-1/4 x 3 in. Numerous dents, handle splits at body, scratches. Provenance: Engravings on cup probably refer to Susan Wright Empie (born circa 1839), daughter of Adam Empie of Richmond, Virginia. The cup passed to her brother's family, Adam Empie II of Wilmington, North Carolina, and to his descendant Ann Emie Boatwright, born 1917 in Wilmington.
