William Gropper signed Watercolor WPA Americana

34X28 framed signed Watercolour painting. Gropper studied at the National Academy of Design as well as with Henri, Bellows, Giles and Hambridge. A W.P.A. Muralist, he received a Guggenheim fellowship and was known as an artist capable of biting social commentary. He exhibited widely at such locations as the Society of Independent artists, the Piccadilly Gallery in London, the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design. His work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of Modern Art and the Fogg Museum of Art, among many museums here and abroad. this is from his american folk art series Paul Bunyan, The Headless Horseman, Davey Crockett, Mike Fink, Johnny Appleseed, John Brown,
