Rare Kadishman Israeli sculpture signed '68

20 x 17 x 3.2 cm rare early signed and dated Kadishman sculpture in wood and glass. Very minor paint loss at corners (easily retouched) Menashe Kadishman was born in 1932 in Tel Aviv Israel. Studied with the sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv in 1954 and afterwards with the sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem 1959-60.
He traveled to London in 1959 where he studied at the St. Martin's School of Art and at Slade School of Art, Studies with Anthony Caro and Reg Butler . He remained in London until 1972 and had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style and so designed as to appear to defy gravity. This was achieved either through careful balance and construction, as in Suspense (1966; Jerusalem, Israel Museum.), or by using glass and metal so that the metal appeared unsupported, as in Segments (1968; New York, MOMA), and the glass allowed the environment to be part of the work He returned to Israel in 1972 and ever since has been living and working in Tel Aviv.
Kadishman is most known for his beautiful metal and iron large-scale simplistic urban sculptures. He is inspired by biblical stores such as the Sacrifice of Itzhak which are creatively transformed to new narratives.
Over the last forty years he has had numerous exhibitions across the world, at the Jewish Museum (New York), Israel Museum (Jerusalem), National Art Gallery (Beijing), National Art Gallery (Bangkok), Suermondt Ludwig Museum (Aachen, Germany), the Museum of Modern Art (Kamakura, Japan) and many more museums and leading international galleries. He represented Israel at the Venice Biennale in 1978 when he created for the Israeli pavilion a herd of blue metal sheep.
In 1995 he won Israel's most honorary prize, the Israel Price for Plastic Arts, which was added to a long list of prizes he won previously. His works are in collections of renowned museums across the world.
