signed wool felt tapestry by Evelyn Ackerman. with glass beads and rhinestones. felt applique with interesting stitching. in a hardwood mounted frame. there is some loss to the beads and rhinestones but still a fabulous piece. please see photos. it can be repaired or hung as is. influential mid-Century modern designer renowned for textile, enamel and glass mosaic designs She produced beautiful textiles in both Mexico and Italy. She participated in the influential Southern California "The Arts of Daily Living" exhibition. She founded ERA industries with her husband Jerome Ackerman. Work by Ackerman is in the collection of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian. Now retired in Los Angeles, Ackerman is well known for her tapestries and her enamel work. "Masters of Mid-Century California Modernism -- Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman," an exhibition with more than 200 pieces from the vast portfolio of the Culver City artisans. Though little known to most of the public, the couple are revered in design circles for ceramics, tile mosaics, woodcarvings and textiles The Ackermans are famous for Modenist tapestry weavings, hand made enamel tiles, wood carved tiles, Jenev Pottery, and studio pottery. They worked closely with many Southern California Modernism Interior designers and made custom pieces for architectural installations. They also produced tile mosaic tile pictures. They are important Southern California midcentury designers and have become well collected among those seeking David Cressey, Jaru, Tackett, Eames furniture and other southern California Designers,craftsmen, and distributors.
