A River Runs Through It Hardy 3 1/8" Perfect Trout Reel. Used in the movie "A River Runs Through It" by the Paul Maclean character, played by Brad Pitt. This circa 1920's Perfect has a ribbed foot, nickel silver rim tension control and duplicated mark II check. A non-line guide model with ebonite handle grasp and oval plate riveted inside the frame, showing this reel as having been "Made for James E. McNeill & Sons, Ltd - Fredericton N.B.". Also marked inside the reel are the initials W.S., indicating the reel was built by Wilf Stinton. In excellent condition, filled with amber colored line specially made for the movie to resemble the amber colored silk lines of the 1920's. A true collector's item for movie and fishing collectors alike. This exact reel is one of three reels and three rods used by the actors of A River Runs Through It to be sold in this auction. Each appears in the movie and can clearly be viewed during the fishing scenes. The fishing equipment for A River Runs Through It was provided by Len Codella, who served as tackle consultant. Each rod and reel comes with a letter of authentication by Codella, stating their use in the movie. Also included with each item, is a copy of a 1991 letter from John Dietsch, the technical coordinator of A River Runs Through It, written on behalf of the producers, Robert Redford and Patrick Markey, thanking Codella for this contribution to the production of the film. Truly, a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a rod or reel from the most important fishing movie ever filmed.
