Berners – The Book of St. Albans – 1810, reprinted by Harding and Wright. Rare, 1 of 150 copies. Introduction by Joseph Haslewood, rebound in full red tooled grained morocco with gilt spine accents and edges, printed in red and black. Hinges are reinforced with cloth tape, light rubbing to cover, slight page edge damage. Personal copy of John Resler Swift, curator of Rare Books and Manuscripts, Archives of American Falconry, donated to the Archives of American Falconry in 1991, later to be de-accessioned. Includes an un-attached Swift bookplate and accompanying letter of provenance by Swift. This very copy was used in Swift's preparation of his bibliography with reference to his note on the Book of St. Albans.
A fly fisherman throughout his life, Robert Blockoff had been fascinated by the sport from a young age. By extension in the 1970's his attention turned to collecting angling books. This and 97 other lots represent this pursuit. His collection is comprised of both American and English titles with a focus on salmon fishing, having taken a significant turn when he purchased Jones' Guide to Norway from the important G-Albert Petit Collection. Further early titles soon followed. Lang's is pleased to offer the Blockoff Angling Library. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
