Rare Tolfrey 1848 Jones's Guide to Norway

Tolfrey, Frederic – Jones's Guide to Norway and Salmon Fisher's Pocket Companion – 1848, Longman, Brown, etc., First edition. With guarded tinted frontis of Fiskum Foss and an additional pictorial frontispiece. Eight spectacular guarded hand colored lithographed plates of salmon flies by J. and H. Adlard. This very copy from the G-Albert Petit Collection of Angling Books, sold at Christie's in 1999, still retaining Petit brown tag on back end paper. In original blind stamped crenellated border green cloth with bright gilt spine lettering. In fine condition, firm, with slight spine end puckering and light fading. An extraordinary provenanced copy.

A fly fisherman throughout his life, Robert Blockoff had been fascinated by the sport from a young age. By extension in the 1970's his attention turned to collecting angling books. This and 97 other lots represent this pursuit. His collection is comprised of both American and English titles with a focus on salmon fishing, having taken a significant turn when he purchased Jones' Guide to Norway from the important G-Albert Petit Collection.
