Zouch 1823 The Life of Isaac Walton

Zouch, Thomas – The Life of Isaac Walton – 1823, Septimus Prowett, First Prowett edition. 1 of 8 on large paper with 20 engraved plates on india proof paper, several woodcut vignettes. Dark straight grained morocco attributed to Gosden. Gilt stamped central "Walton's Angler" cartouche, blind stamped boarders, spine with six raised bands. 93 gilt edged pages, plates are from Gosden's 1822 book of the "Complete Angler". In very good condition with moderate cover wear for the age, with expected age discoloration.

A fly fisherman throughout his life, Robert Blockoff had been fascinated by the sport from a young age. By extension in the 1970's his attention turned to collecting angling books. This and 97 other lots represent this pursuit. His collection is comprised of both American and English titles with a focus on salmon fishing, having taken a significant turn when he purchased Jones' Guide to Norway from the important G-Albert Petit Collection. Further early titles soon followed. Lang's is pleased to offer the Blockoff Angling Library.
