The Carte de Visite or Visiting Card was very popular in the Civil War era, replacing the easily damaged daguerreotype or ambrotype of the 1840s and 1850s. One of the few drawbacks of this early photography was the need for the subject to be completely still for a long period of time to assure clarity. Not only is fishing as a subject matter quite rare, it is extremely rare to find a CDV with eleven people involved, especially in an outdoor setting. This wonderfully clear little photo includes multiple center hole creels, rods and a large bobber. In excellent condition with slight fading, soiling and edge wear.
