Large Old French Weave Creel

Unusual form, most likely home made in the late 1800's to early 1900's. Top wood brace is hand carved and the leather hinges and nails are hand cut. Basketry is thin splint, woven in an elongated "watermelon" shape, measuring 13 1/2" tall x 11" wide. This shape was more prevalent in Europe prior to the turn of the century than in the US. In very good condition with a few breaks to the splint.
