Large Early Bark Splint Creel

Sign In to see what this sold for

Measuring 14" x 13", this late 1800's creel is woven with bark splint, giving it a great Adirondack or country look. To leave the bark attached to the splint strips was a more difficult process for the weaver, and needed to be completed while the splint was still new and wet. Even though the leather hinges are separated, a large percentage of the bark is still attached to the splint, most likely meaning this creel saw little use. This early example, with hand carved wood brace and original wood lid and leather strap, is in good condition with a few small sections of splint missing.
