These large 18 1/4" jars were used for fermentation of eggs in a fish hatchery at the turn of the century, both blown in the style of medical beakers. One comes with the original tin flanged lip with spout, having a tall glass foot, in excellent condition, other than expected corrosion to the tin. The other, a rare marked example, has a lower profile glass foot and glass spout, and is marked MEEHAN Hatching Jar. Most likely from the Meehan State Fish Hatchery in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania, after the 1903 Commissioner of Fisheries William E. Meehan. Also included is a spout for a gallon beaker, found with the jars.
