Rare Prototype Heritage Hand Made German Silver and Hard Rubber Trout Reel. The original prototype for what would become the "Heritage- Edward Vom Hofe" series of reels in 1991. Commissioned by Len Codella of Heritage Sporting Collectibles, Ross Reels owner Ross Hauck built a limited number of nickel silver and hard rubber reels in the style of Edward Vom Hofe's larger trout reels, with this being "number zero". Differing from the run of 25 production reels, this has wider rims, a larger handle and acorn style handle nut, subsequently replaced with a sculpted and knurled handle nut on the production reels. Also a bit heavier than the production run, this 2 3/4" diameter, 15/16" wide spool reel has a set of roller pillars, sliding click switch and Tobique style drag system, all in new, unused condition. Marked on the sliding oil cap, "Heritage – No.0 – E. Vom Hofe", a rare opportunity to own a true proto-type example of a classic reel, complete with the leather draw string bag sold with the production run.
