William Howard Yorke (British, 1847-1921)
Portrait of the British Ship J.D. EVERETT. Signed "W.H. YORKE" l.r., ship identified in inscription at l.c. and indistinctly on bow. Oil on canvas, 12 x 18 1/4 in., unframed. Condition: Small tear c.l., several specks of paint losses on edges. Note: William Howard Yorke (1847-1921) and his father, William G. Yorke, settled in Liverpool, England, about 1855. They were both marine artists. While William G. Yorke departed for New York, his son continued in England. William H. Yorke's paintings have a distinctive use of bow and stern reflections.
