A large turquoise blue faience funerary scarab, Late Period, c.664 - 30 BC, with two separately made wings. The undersides are flat and the edges of the wings and scarab are pierced for stitching onto the mummy wrappings. The wings have detailed feathers and the scarab is decorated with a striated wing case and articulated head and legs, which are outside the body. Length with wings 7 ½" (18.5 cm), scarab measures 2 1/8" x 1 ½" (53 x 39 cm). Ex Negus collection, acquired in the 1960's.
