A pair of items fashioned from deer antler. Neolithic France, c.6th Millenium BC. The first is a hook, with surfaces polished from use and wear on the tip, L: 3" (7.6 cm). The second item is an axe handle, with hollowed area for the attachment of a stone blade and missing the length of the shaft, L: 5 ½" (14 cm), with good surface deposits and mineralization. Both pieces found in Saint Antonin Noble Val and in Bruniquel, Tarn and Garonne, France, later 19th century; ex collection of Simon Poulec (b. 1828 in Espalion), founder of Rhone-Poulec and grandfather of composer Francis Poulec; ex collection Prof. Leon Laran and his family by descent.
