A clay foundation cone of king Ishme-Dagan, Sumeria, Isin (Tell Bahriayat), c. 1953 - 1935 BC. Nicely incised with a dedicatory inscription: "Ishme-Dagan, mighty man, King of Isin, King of four quarters (of the world), when he cancelled the taxes of Nippur, the city beloved by Enlil, and excused its men from military/corvée service, he built the wall of the city of Isin, naming it "Ishme-Dagan, the might (?) of the Great God". L: 4 7/8" (12.4 cm). Minor chipping to narrow end. Ex. Royal Athena Gallery, New York. The modern Tell Bahriayat is the location of ancient Isin, well placed upon the ancient course of the Euphrates river in central Babylonia.
