Roman ivory plaque / pendant with Medusa

An oval ivory plaque or pendant with Medusa, Roman, 1st - 2nd Century AD. The piece is nicely carved, with the face of medusa on one side, and a seated griffin on the other. The head of medusa is nicely rendered with sharp detail and the griffin carved in profile within an oval frame, small pierced knob for suspension at the top. One clean break which is repaired, otherwise a very handsome piece! H: 2 ¼" (5.72 cm).
