A choice zoomorphic effigy from Peru, c. AD 650 - 700. This rare cross-cultural example depicts a camelid, most likely an alpaca. The spout shows it to be late Moche V, but the strong Huari influence is seen in the style of painting and its decorative elements. The head is nicely detailed and expressive, the legs are molded in relief and the tail peeks out from under what is meant to be a heavy textile blanket. H: 8 ¼". In excellent condition, with strong paint and good mineral deposits. Ex Espinoza collection, Toronto.
