An early Nazca (Proto-Nazca) polychrome vessel from Peru, c. AD 1 - 100. This vessel clearly copies an earlier Paracas form. The chamber is decorated with knotted Quipu designs in a variety of colors and the spout and handle are a deep brown-black. Was this vessel actually meant to take the place of a knotted Quipu or did the artist simply decide to mirror the design to communicate its importance? Diameter 5 ½"; H: 5 ¼". A rare and interesting early type with an uncommon and important motif. Ex Andrea Sarmiento collection, Miami.
