Netherlands, 1924 - d. 1993) Sculptor, Painter, Illustrator, Teacher Known for his "end-less line" Drawings of animals I believe this carving to be an "early work" by the WORLD FAMOUS SCULPTOR ARTIST, Alfred Van Loen (1924-1993). Matching signature samples and photos of (early years) similar style wood carvings can be found in an excellent reference book entitled "Beyond Time – The Art of Alfred Van Loen" by Eleanor Flomenhaft. This author attests to Van Loen’s innovative skill & to the sheer volume of work that he created. The Artist Van Loen was a Jewish Dutch immigrant to the United States in 1947, making his home in New York. He had been trained at the Royal Academy in Amsterdam & was a skillful technician and educator. His works can be found at the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the National Museum of Jerusalem. Amon Carter Museum, FT. Worth, Texas .Long Island University Art Museum , The Smithsonian , Dahlhousie University Arts Centre, Canada . He died in 1993. Condition reportin generally very good condition
