SILVER SHIP MODEL, HAMILTON & CO. SILVERSMITH, CALCUTTA, 18" X 20" CASE:Sailing vessel made by Hamilton and Co Calcutta, in glass case. Case size is 18" x 20" with black ebony. Robert Hamilton (1772-1848) arrived in India and started work in Calcutta in 1808. He opened his Jewellery and Silversmithing shop at 5 Tank Square in 1808 under license from the East Indian Company.
Condition reportHamilton & Co. is probably the best known and celebrated British silversmith operating in India. Model is in good condition. Well made English display case circa 1890. jw
