From the Collection of Peter & Susan Wain Bust of Peasant Girl, by Senior Master Zeng Shandong, porcelain, 330mm. high, the headscarf formed from real lace dipped in glaze, modelled onto the figure, then burnt away in firing, leaving the extremely fragile glaze residue, unmarked, [Jingdezhen], 1960.***Certified by Zeng Shandong as being made by him in Jingdezhen in 1960. A fine example of the aesthetics of New China before the Cultural Revolution. The subtly self-conscious oriental overtones suggest it was probably made for the overseas market..
