From the Collection of Peter & Susan Wain Red Detachment of Women ceramic table lamp, the female military figure in balletic pose, porcelain, 250mm. high, unmarked, electrical fittings removed, c.1966-76.***The Red Detachment of Women, written in 1960, became one of Jiang Qing's model ballets during the cultural revolution. Set on Hainan Island in the 1930s, it tells of daughter-in-law of a wealthy family who rejects her privileged life to become company leader of an all-woman unit of the Red Army.
