3 vols. 8vo, rebound in black library binding, gilt titles to spines. First editions of volumes 1 and 3, second edition of volume 2. Illustrated with three frontispieces (those to volumes 2 and 3 hand-colored aquatints), five plates and three maps, two of which are colored and fold-out. Advertisements to end of volume 3. "Darwin valued Lyell's work over any other book on geology in the Beagle's library." (Herbert, p. 64) manuscript ex-libris to title page volume 2 and clipped from title and dedication page to volume 3; some offsetting from frontispieces; conservation sticker to final leaf of all three volumes; otherwise a fine set.
