Dickens, Charles (1812-1870), Partial autograph letter signed, one page, c. 1849, to Joseph C. King, no place given, mentioning his son Charley and Mr. Cooksley, (folds, minor browning).
Text in full: "obligated myself by the readiness with which Charley went through his ordeal with a stranger, but that I am sure you would have been well pleased and much satisfied, if you could have seen Mr. Cooksley afterwards. He had evidently not expected such a result, and look it as not at all an ordinary one./My dear sir/Your faithful and obliges/Charles Dickens". Note: Dickens' son, Charles Culliford Boz Dickens (1837-1896), attended Eton, where Cooksley was one of his tutors.
