(Decorative Binding, Fine Press), Wordsworth, William (1770-1850), Intimations of Immortality, Portland: Thomas Bird Mosher, 1908, one of 925 copies on Van Gelder hand-made paper, in crushed green gilt pictorial embossed morocco with blue floral onlays signed "EGS 1912," with clamshell box, square 12mo, (good, front flyleaves with minor edge burn).

Note: Bound by Ellen Gates Starr, American social reformer and cofounder along with Jane Addams of Hull House, Chicago, in 1889. Miss Starr believed in fostering the creative impulse in people, and believed that endeavors in craft would lift workers above the repetitive grind of the industrial world. In 1900 she established a bookbindery at Hull House, where she taught the binding, and established a reputation as a master craftsperson in the binder's art. This lot includes one of her calling cards.
