RARE JAPANESE ANTIQUE 20 KEN HOSHI KABUTO Kamakura period, 1185-1333, Samurai 20 Ken hoshi kabuto. Russet iron finish with 162 standing rivets (Hoshi) within iron plates (ken), gradually reducing in size to the top of each plate. A rare find outside of Japan. Excellent condition. Close inspection reveals tiny amounts of the original black lacquer remaining in places. The fine structure indicates it was produced by a fine quality maker for an important Samurai General. This helmet was kept in a temple in Nara for nearly 500 years. A very desirable and early antique samurai kabuto. Accompanied by documents of authenticity. EST. $10000 - 15000
