M89 PRUSSIAN OFFICER SWORD W/ GILT DAMASCUS BLADE An important sword formally owned by the Count of Mecklenberg-Schwerin, Germany. Damascus Blade of 34 inches with gilded ricasso. The blade with makers mark, the back edge with etched "JF Bock, Hoflieferant Berlin". The blade with scroll "Damaststahl" and "Eisenhauer" to each side. Heavily gilded fittings and carved horn, wire bound grip. A gilt metal cipher attached. Blackened metal scabbard. Light wear and aging, the scabbard with minor paint spatter. This sword was liberated from the Counts castle (Barockschloss Ludwigslust) by Lt General James M Gavin and given to General Harold L. Clark during the war. General Gavin had set up his headquarters in the castle on his way to Berlin. The sword was then passed to an Air Force NCO to be added as part of his personal collection. Comes with supporting paperwork including a signed letter from General Gavin and photographs and a postcard of the castle. EST. $5000 - 8000
