JAPANESE WAKIZASHI BY MURAMASA

JAPANESE WAKIZASHI BY MURAMASA Antique Japanese Samurai wakizashi sword by, "Muramasa", dating to the Muromachi period, 1392–1573. Clear parts of his original signature are still retained (all Muramasa Swords were ordered destroyed by the Shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi). Most Muramasa swords had signature totally removed, only a few retain partial signatures. Muramasa was a student of Heianjo Nagayoshi, and only swords of both makers used this rare style of nakago, Tanagobara-Gata or Fish Belly. Hamon is midareba with gunome. Measurements: total length 55cm, nagasa / cutting edge 41cm, width 30.5mm, thickness 5mm, kissaki 43mm. Mune: iori-mune. Nakago: zaimei and ubu. New top grade shirasaya. Very nice full Japanese polish. Overall a rare and desirable wakizashi for the discerning collector. EST. $5000 - 10000
