CIVIL WAR -- CONFEDERATE IMPRINT. DEBOW'S REVIEW: INDUSTRIAL RESOURCES, ETC. New Orleans: January 1861-August 1862. Comprising: Vol. V: Nos. 1, 2, 5, 6; Vol. VI: Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6; Vol. VII: Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4: Vol. VIII: No. 1. Original printed wrappers, housed in two clamshell cases. Condition: foxing; wrappers worn with some covers and spines missing. 14 rare war-date issues of DeBow's review, a journal that before the war contained everything from agricultural reports, statistical data, and economic analysis to literature, political opinion, and commentary. The magazine took an increasingly pro-Southern and eventually secessionist perspective in the late 1850s and early 1860s, defended slavery in response to abolitionism, and these war-time issues contain many articles regarding the war.
