HENNEPIN, Louis (1640-c.1705). A new discovery of the vast country in America, extending above four thousand miles, between New France and New Mexico; with the description of the Great Lakes... with a continuation: giving an account of the attempts of the Sieur de la Salle upon the mines of St. Barbe, &c. the taking of Quebec by the English... London: Printed for Henry Bonwick ..., 1698. Two volumes bound in one, 8vo (195 x 130 mm). 2 maps plus 7 plates including the frontis. Later red crushed levant morocco, by Lloyd, Wallis & Lloyd, gilt, gilt dentilles a.e.g. Condition: first map laid onto linen, innermost fold of second map professionally repaired; some tanning and minor dust soiling. Provenance: Dudley Bell Priester (bookplate). The second issue of the English translation, known as the "Tonson" issue, with plates and typography improved, after the original French edition published in Utrecht in 1697.
