EINSTEIN, Albert (1879 - 1955). Typed letter signed,
Peconic, Long Island, NY: 28 August 1938. Typed letter in German, signed "A. Einstein", 1 pg. (265 x 210 mm). Condition: folds, browning. Letter addressed to "Herrn Fr. Navara" of New York City, and translates in full "Dear Mr. Navara/ Enclosed you will find a reference letter from Mr. Morgenthau to the Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Swanson. It might be advisable to kindly thank the old man. / With high regards / A. Einstein." Navara was involved in the development of new acoustical directional guidance systems which he believed could be adapted for use in torpedos. Einstein would soon after encourage President Roosevelt to study nuclear fission, consideration of which led to the Manhattan Project.
