BRUNO, Giordano (1548-1600) Lo Spaccio de la Bestia Trionfante manuscript on paper. [c. 17th C.]. Thick 4to (200 x 160). 265pp., mostly in gatherings of 6. c.20 lines written in brown ink in a humanist script, in Italian, with catchwords. Text divided into 3 dialogues and a further 3 parts. Dedicated to poet and friend Philip Sidney. Near contemporary full mottled calf, edges speckled red. Condition: last quire and front-free endpapers detached but present, f.15 uncut, some worming to boards and preliminary leaves, some slight offsetting to text, margins uniformly creased, some minor smudges; joints split, spine rubbed with some loss, some dustsoiling to edges, corners bumped. Provenance: contemporary ms. marginalia and few underlines to text; Léon Gambetta (bookplate). a fine 17th century manuscript copy of bruno's 'lo spaccio de la bestia trionfante,' from the 1584 edition. Or 'The Expulsion of the Triumphant Beast', a work on moral philosophy that aimed to recover the original dimension of wisdom and communication between human and divine.
