MINZ, Yehudah (c.1409-1509). Pesakim Sailoth Utesuvoth. Venice: Alvise Bragadin, 1553. 4to (197 x 137 mm). 134 ff. (numbered in Hebrew and Arabic). Printer's device of three crowns to title. Red mottled half calf over red boards, gilt title to spine, edges speckled red. Condition: old restoration to upper corner of title, minor worming to title not affecting text, minor soiling, some dampstaining especially to upper corner of last few quires; extremities rubbed. Provenance: library sticker to upper compartment of spine; some words cancelled in ink (pp.22-26); Isaac dalli Scoli...1566 (owner's inscription to title); late inscription in blue ink to title; two owners' inscriptions, 1599 and 1628, to colophon. First edition. A collection of essays edited by the German rabbi Minz, who settled in Padua following the expulsion of the Jews from Magonza in 1416. His Pesakim is divided in three parts, one of which written by Minz's son, Avraham, concerns divorce. The fifth response permits a pregnant prostitute to marry in order to save herself and her husband from public shame. Vilnograd, Venice 460.
