(BINDING) Collections Georges Hoentschel. Notices de André Pératé et Gaston Brière... Paris: Librairie centrale des beaux-arts, 1908. 8 volumes, Folio (440 x 310 mm). 268 mounted photographic plates, of which 12 are in color and the rest in sepia (originally issued loose in 4 portfolios). Here bound with linen hinges into 8 volumes. Half green morocco over blue cloth boards, red morocco lettering labels, t.e.g. Condition: covers recently refurbished, occasional faint soiling to covers, spines lightly toned. These fine photographic images are of a huge collection of statues, furniture, tapestries, bronzes, etc. (from the Middle Ages thru the 18th century) that was bought by J.P. Morgan from Hoentschel (a Parisian architect and collector). Morgan later gave it to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where it became the foundation of the museum's Department of European Decorative Arts.
