Contemporary full red straight grained morocco, covers ruled and paneled in gilt, spines with 5 raised bands, gilt tooling and lettering, a.e.g., housed in two custom boxes. Condition: darkening, offset from portrait to title, dampstaining to final leaves of vol. 1 and 3; some soiling to covers and rubbing to spines, light rubbing to corners. Provenance: Bennet Langton to Bryan Waller (gift inscription to ffee). presentation copy from bennet langton, a close friend of dr. johnson and a contributor to boswell's life. Langton first encountered Johnson while contributing to The Rambler, soon friends, Langton would attend to Johnson during his final illness, and was included in his will.
