Large Collection of Works By or Related to Marcus A. Waterman (American,
1834-1914), including a framed oil on canvas landscape, Wood Interior, identified on a period label affixed to the stretcher, as well as stretched and unstretched oil on canvas works, watercolors and charcoal drawings on paper, photographs, books, etc. N.B. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Marcus Waterman attended Brown University before moving to New York to pursue his artistic career. Although Waterman set up a studio Boston in 1875, he traveled extensively within the U.S. as well as to Europe and northern Africa. He was known to have produced many sketches and studies exploring color and light.
