D-103 Kingdom of Two Sicilies elaborate presentation grade "mameluke" style sword. Matching the quality of the finest French First Empire workmanship, the age-toned ivory grips are highlighted with oval gilt relief floral embellishments and a continuous engraved floral panel on the gilt exposed sides of the tang. A high relief intricate floral design stands out on the "diamond" center of the crossguard with floral designed "dome" finial ends. The knuckle-bow consists of a double chain of "ribbed" heavy gold rings, 1 1/2" wide, 31 1/2" curved blade has a 11" etched panel with a crowned "F II" cypher (Ferdinand II) with elaborate detailed vines/floral work. An open oval has the date "1850" and "Napoli Labuna" (the Royal Arms Manufactory). Reverse has similar floral work and a stand of arms. A fine sword, obviously made for a high ranking military officer/member of nobility. (Ferdinand II ruled from 1830 to 1859. Initially liberal orientated, he gradually became more authoritarian. His harsh treatment of participants in the revolt of 1848 and bombardment of Sicilian cities earned him the nickname "King Bomba".) Scarce. Condition II+ $4,500.00
