E-3 Austrian WWI pith helmet. Tan cloth covered "melon" shape - similar to the British type. Large age darkened crowned double-headed eagle/coat-of-arms frontplate. Silver "tape" with a blue stripe, in the shape of an "A", placed behind crown of eagle. Blue suede type sweatband with a green lining. Stamped with an Austrian eagle, name of maker (not readable) and dated "1914". (According to author Stefan Rest in "The Emperor's Coat", the Austrians utilized a variety of pith helmets and types in WWI. Included were purchased British helmets, Austrian produced, and helmets captured from the Turks). A scarce example bearing the Austro-Hungarian national helmet plate. Condition II $375.00
