S-38 - Balance of USMC Sgt. Napoleon Ruell Estate, first offered in Mohawk Arms Inc., Catalog No. 50 on November 22, 2003. During WWI Sgt. Ruell first served in the 52nd Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division and was awarded a Purple Heart. Ruell later transferred to the Marine Corps and in 1931 served with the Constabulary Detachment in Haiti - assigned to the 99-man Palace Guard Detachment of the Haitian president. He was appointed as a 2nd Lt. "Garde D'Haiti - Presidential Palace Guard" by President Stenio Vncent. Records show him listed as a Senior Officer in the Marine Corps "Port Au Prince Republic of Haiti Member's List". Ruell was a close friend of USMC Leader "Chesty Puller".
Pith helmet of USMC 2nd Lt. Napoleon Ruell. Large gilt "GENDARMERIE D'HAITI" (Palace Guard) insignia above a USMC eagle/globe/anchor. Leather chinstrap. Lining named to "N. RUELL USMC". Leather sweatband embossed in gold "L. H. SMITH PORT-AU-PRINCE HAITI". Trademark paper label for "EQUATOR TROPICAL HELMET". Red cloth lining under leather band.
