S-46 - Grouping from M/SGT. G. Peterson, a member of U.S.A.A.F. WWII Fighter Squadron 357 (355th Fighter Group). Includes: (1) "Ike" jacket with embroidered 8th and 9th AF "patches", Master Sergeant Stripes, Mechanics specialty "patch" and Service bars and "Ruptured Duck". Theater made 355th Squadron D.I.'s. Five ribbon bar: European Theater, American Defense, Good Conduct, Victory Medal and German Occupation. (2) O.D. shirt with 8th and 9th AF "patches" as above. (3) O'seas cap with D.I. as above. (4) Matching trousers and web belt. (5) Exceptional photo album with metal covers - insignia of a boar's head within wings on cover. A phenomenal presentation of P-51 fighter aircraft, pilots, ground crews, servicing the aircraft, views of the air field, personnel at work, views of nose art, other aircraft, life on the air field, and R & R in London. An unusual overview of a fighter squadron's operation during wartime. A total of 370 photos. (6) A 1947 letter from Charles Read, the officer in charge of the squadron, thanking Peterson as "the best line chief…in the Army". (7) O.D. issue "gym" bag. Stenciled "M/SGT. G. PETERSON". (8) Lot of 23 issues of "MUSTANG", the official publication of the 355th Fighter Group Association. Publications are illustrated with wartime photos related to this unit, and information on members.
