Minton 3-piece 19th-C Porcelain Table Service

British-made 3-piece Victorian-era porcelain table service by Minton decorated in white and light-green glazes. The set consists of an elongated central dish with basket-like piercing and Two (2) small shell-shaped side dishes, all supported by Neoclassical-style figures. The central dish rests on a shield-shaped basket held aloft by a pair of casually-draped putti facing outward. Each putto holds in its hands the ends of a leafy grapevine. These vines wrap around the bases of the curved, auricular supports upon which the putti recline and to which of their own accord they seem bound. These vines are symbols of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, whose grimacing masks, amidst bunches of grapes, surmount the Four (4)-footed base at center, learing front and back. Each of the Two (2) side dishes is held by a pastoral maiden sitting on a rock. One maiden sits on a green-glazed rock and wears a dress with white-glazed skirts; the other sits on a white-glazed rock and wears a dress with green-glazed skirts. Impressed on the base of the larger piece are the numbers "1619", the letter "S", the word "MINTON", and the symbol of a cross inside a circle, indicating the date of manufacture as 1872. The base of the smaller piece with the green-glazed rock is impressed with the word "MINTON; on the base of the piece with the white-glazed rock, no impressions are visible.
Dimensions: Larger piece, 9"H x 13"W x 7"D; each of the 2 smaller pieces, 6"H x 5"W x 4"D

Condition report

Consistent with age; on the larger piece, a minor scratch, some cracking and soiling to the interior of the dish, minor chipping to the toes of each putto; the 4 feet of the base are protected with green velvet, which may not be original; on the 2 smaller pieces, some soiling is visible on the interior of each dish, 1 of which shows a minor crack. Green velvet, probably not original, protects the base of 1 of the pieces, but is missing from the other.
